REFORESTATION/SILVICULTURE
Sustainable Forest Management is one of the key focuses of our team. This not only protects the many current uses of our forests but also promotes future forestry objectives for generations to come. Following harvest, wildfire, or major insect or disease issues, tree planting is often required to ensure your property is reforested in a timely manner. On an annual basis, Rocky Mountain Forestry administers tree planting of approximately 2.5-3.5 million seedlings across the Inland Northwest. Our team can procure the correct seedling/stock types to fit your property as well as contract services such as herbicide application, tree planting, and pre-commercial thinning. Our professional foresters can identify and map project boundaries, establish site specific prescriptions, contract and negotiate labor and equipment costs, and provide quality assurance through project administration.
DRONE SERVICES
This a new service that we are proud to have implemented, and we are looking forward to utilizing this technology to help land managers make better assessments and decisions on their ground. Real-time aerial imagery and maps captured by drones creates a complete, detailed picture of the landscape, providing comprehensive insights and analysis used by managers. Some of the possibilities that our drone services can provide include:
Salvage, Wind, Storm Damage – We can accurately establish maps that show distribution and acreage for areas that will need salvaged due to natural events and storms.
Insect and Disease Mapping – Map infestations, make predictions for future spread, plan operations
Fire – Map fire size, analyze fire fronts, predict movements, determine burned acres
Track Progress – Can be used for timber harvest progress, thinning progression, able to determine accurate completeness for partial payments, and gives managers reliable figures for budgeting and resource scheduling.
PCT, Slashing, Site Prep – Determine actual acres needing treatment, void out inconsistent areas, reduce overall costs.
Unit Access and Readiness – Determine current snow conditions and % of coverage, determine green up conditions, see road access issues, save time and improve efficiency in operations.
Agriculture – Let us know your mapping and planning needs, lots of potential tools to help in decision making and planning which will increased yields.
Real Estate – Detailed photo and video imagery – show all of the angles! See the entire property, and adjacent areas from above.
Please reach out and see how this technology can improve your business, we are more than willing to explore alternative ideas that you may have that are not mentioned above. The possibilities are endless with a drone, and we will do our best to facilitate your needs. We are FAA drone certified.
FOREST INVENTORY/TIMBER CRUISING
Our foresters are highly trained and well versed in various aspects of forest inventory. We can provide you quality cruise estimates of your timber volume and stocking levels by utilizing various cruise types and designs. These cruises can assist in formulating annual harvest plans, inventory updates, forest management plans, timber valuations, estate planning, silviculture prescriptions, as well as Lidar verification plots. You can trust us to provide you with the best products, as well as the highest quality customer service. Get in touch to learn more.
HAZARD MANAGEMENT/FUEL REDUCTION
Following harvest activities, our team has the tools and experience to provide safe and efficient fuels reduction on your property. This is most often achieved by mechanical slash piling and burning. This is done to meet state slash requirements, reduce wildfire risks, and to prepare the site for silviculture activities such as tree planting.
FOREST ENGINEERING
Moving forward with active forest management often times requires the construction of forest roads with stream crossings. We at RMF have the technical expertise and tools to make sure that your crossings are designed correctly to meet your management and access objectives, as well as to ensure passage of fish and peak flood flows. Whether its a pre-fabricated bridge, bottomless arch, or round corrugated culvert, RMF can deliver a design that best suits your needs and budget. In Washington, we can provide all the engineering drawings necessary to complete your Hydraulic Permit Application (HPA) along with your Forest Practice Application for your stream crossings. Contact us to learn more about the HPA process and how we can help facilitate your project.
FOREST MANAGEMENT PLANS
A forest management plan describes the current forest condition, and outlines a plan of action to achieve your management goals which may include revenue, wildlife habitat, recreation, clean water, and overall forest health. A forest management plan is based on your goals and objectives and is designed to provide a detailed blueprint for accomplishing goals. We will custom design your plan to meet your individual property needs.
The first step in a good plan is to evaluate the current condition of your property. Our foresters will thoroughly look at all aspects of your timberland and will address a variety of measures during field visits which will include: Forest insect and disease issues or concerns, species breakdowns, age classes, potential hazards and fire risks, access issues, wildlife opportunities, we will look at corners and boundary lines and how they are identified, and we will address all water and type the water based on state definitions and criteria. After an initial site visit we will be able to give you professional advice relating to your property and goals.
There are 2 primary types of forest management plans that we can complete.
Tax Plans – These are state specific and are done to meet the requirements outlined by your state to have a reduction in annual tax by designating acres to forest land. These plans are relatively simple and easy to complete.
Detailed Comprehensive Plans – These can be used to solicit federal grant money, and can be used for various certification programs. This type plan requires a lot more detail and commitment from the landowner for long-term planning.
RMF foresters can help you define the best plan for your needs and we take pride in developing a plan that can be instrumental in creating the forest of your dreams. Contact us to learn more!
